News - Boot Camp's Impact (7/7/06) How Dual Booting is Revolutionizing the Windows Marketplace. |
According to a recent article from yahoo.com, "Apple Computer Inc.'s latest laptop looks sleek, runs fast and should give makers of Windows-based notebooks considerable cause for concern."
After their second highest quarterly sales ever, Apple is ecstatic with its newfound succes in a formerly Windows-heavy marketplace. Apple reported a 12% growth in Macs and a 32% growth in iPods over last year.
Also impressive were its international sales which accounted for 39% of all its sales. And with Apple Boot Camp in hand, Apple shows no signs that it will stop growing anytime soon.
In the words of yahoo.com's article, "With extra software, the newer Macs can run Microsoft Corp.'s Windows as well as Apple's Mac OS X... This could spell trouble for notebook makers who can't offer the best of both worlds."
As Apple continues to refine Boot Camp and continues to drop its prices and increase the speed of its computer offerings, other notebook and desktop companies are beginning to quake in their boots. What can they offer that will compete with Apple's speedy dual-proc $1099 MacBook Pro, especially since it offers both OS X and Windows XP?
Although Apple by no means will oustrip Windows XP-enabled computers anytime soon, this simple question will leave many laptop and desktop builders scratching their heads. Windows does not offer support for Macs, but Macs do offer support for Windows XP (and in the future, possibly Vista.)
In addition, Apple's iPod continues to earn a US market share of over 75%, which will keep Apple in the limelight for portable music players far into the future. With new touch-screen technology iPods coming out in the near future, who knows how much Apple will be able to grow in the next quarter? Let's cross our fingers that it can keep up its impressive pace.
