News - Boot Camp's Impact (7/7/06) How Dual Booting is Revolutionizing the Windows Marketplace. |
Apple's foray into dual booting has potential to be the next major step in OS development. When Apple Boot Camp was released in early April 2006, it shocked the entire Mac community. But, more importantly, it made its footprint on the entire tech world. In unprecedented fashion, Apple offered its official support for a competing OS - Microsoft Windows XP.
While a few diehard Apple fans were sorely disappointed by Boot Camp, pointing out that Apple was losing its identity in the ever-evolving computer market, an overwhelming number of Apple fans were delighted to be able to use both OS X and Windows XP on the same computer. However, Apple made its biggest impression on non-Apple owners.
Since Apple first released its iPod in 2002, its market share and marketability have grown tremendously. Now, with a much larger market to tap into, Apple has shown to millions of iPod fans just how clean and smooth OS X can be. But understandably, many users were scared off because OS X did not support their Windows programs. After all, 95% of all computers use Windows XP.
With the release of Boot Camp, Apple has attracted countless users who could not decide on whether to buy an Apple or a PC. Now they can do both... on the same computer. Evidence shows that Apple's market share is increasing exponentially at this time, which only serves as further evidence that dual booting is the wave of the future.
Apple has always been an inventive, creative company, but no one ever expected something like Boot Camp to ever pop up. Now, in unprecedented fashion, Apple is gaining fast on Microsoft. Dual booting, especially with user-friendly software like Boot Camp, is sure to be a major advancement in home computing that will make its mark on home computers for years to come. Microsoft is, and ought to be, quaking in their boots.
